Local warming
Extreme weather events like the Ahr valley flood disaster are getting increasingly common in the era of climate emergency. The ‘Dreiländereck’ is a region substantially affected by climate change. According to forecast models this will result in seasonal decrease in precipitation and an increase of wildfires.
The upper rhine plain will become a region under massive draught stress. Especially the intensive agriculture in the valley bottom is developing coping mechanisms and efforts for irrigation are increasing.
The second 3land release is investigating patterns of irrigation used by the agro-industrial complex in the upper rhine valley.
