Phreatic pollution
The Upper Rhine aquifer is one of the most important aquifers in Central Europe. The groundwater repeatedly comes to the surface at so-called phreatic springs, or so-called „thunderholes“ in the Rhine valley.
The pollution of the groundwater by nitrate and pesticides also comes to the surface.

A phreatic spring does not splash - and thus does not attract the same attention as springs in the mountains. Its silence also symbolizes the silent danger of the invisible environmental toxins in our groundwater.

This sonic expedition to these phreatic springs unveils the mesmerizing compositions of aquifers and phreatic sources. When we delve deeper into the otherworldly sounds of the aquifers, deep listening can help us to sharpen our perception of such phenomena and the associated challenges for sustainability.
